What is Incident Response?

There are two reasons to engage a seasoned incident response team:

  1. An incident is occurring and needs to be dealt with and responded to

  2. Preparation – it is key to be prepared for the unknown. Good planning means a faster response time and may also mean an incidence may never occur in the first place.

The unfortunate reality is that many organizations don’t realize the value of a comprehensive Managed Security Service until it is too late. ByteGrid’s incident response team is a core part of our service, and just one part of our prevention through diligence mission.

Here are some of the steps involved in incidence prevention:

  1. Assess and Capture
The first step in preventative incident response planning is to asses any vulnerabilities and to create a base line “snapshot” of your entire network. This “snapshot” document will help you determine the “who”, “what”, “where” and “why” of you network and how to address your security weaknesses.

  2. Plan and Prevention
The second part, is to plan for an incident(s), not just common malware, but as many scenarios as you can, and to build a playbook of preventions, responses and actions. The prevention shouldn’t be limited to just tools and services, but should include training and detailed documentation. We have the experience and can help you plan and prevent incidents, in our cloud, and in our data centers.

  3. Test and Practice
Practice makes perfect. We are all busy, and we typically don’t make time to practice for something that might not happen. But the best way to ensure a fast and appropriate response to an incident is to test it out. This should include simulated tests on all of the tools and systems.

  4. Review and Reassess
Lastly, it is critical for continual reassessment and review of the systems, tools and documentation that have been implemented. The world of cyber security is constantly evolving and changing, and so are cyber threats. Less than 5 years ago a DDoS protection wasn’t even a typical topic of discussion, now it is a necessity. ByteGrid’s security team is your security team, we are here to allow you to focus on your business.
